Does Technology Promote Thinking Skills? (2022)

Have you often heard parents say "we limit his use of computer and television time at home as we want him to figure things out on his own and not to be reliant on machines." Educators are often questioned about the amount of time spent using technology in their teaching practices.

In today's post I'll share with you how technology is a necessity. Social media has taken over the global market. If we do not teach our students how to navigate using technology they will be at a disadvantage. In fact, critical thinking and problem solving are essential skills in the digital world where new systems are replacing older approaches. Having students learn using technology is essential to education in the 21st century. In fact, experts say it is the most powerful tool today for developing thinking skills. The world data shares how many people are using social media platforms from 2004 to 2018.

If we do not teach technology at school our students will not be equipped with the necessary knowledge. For example, look at our OTECD class, the social media platforms that we have has helped us centralize the collective knowledge of an entire class. In return, it has helped us to study and communicate more efficiently and dive in how technology helps students. A great example is when the whole world was hit with the pandemic and everyone adapted to the digital educational format. Digital education has supported teaching and learning in schools. Educators have used Edmodo, Thinklink, Ted-Ed, ClassDojo, eduClipper and so many more platforms to teach and communicate with their students. These tools have helped students to continue with their learning despite the pandemic. Integrating all levels of Bloom's Taxonomy, educators can add technology in their lesson plans and challenge their students. The below video shares what Bloom's Taxonomy is.

Now I'd like to hear from you, do you agree if technology promotes thinking skills? Leave a comment.
